Cookie policy

What a cookie is
A small text file your browser stores, so that a site can recognise something between two visits.
What it takes to run the site
We set no cookie of our own at all. What you choose on the cookie bar is not kept in a cookie either: it is kept in your browser’s local storage, under cookie_consent. It stays in your browser until you clear it, and it goes nowhere else. Without it the cookie bar would come back on every page you open.
Analytics cookies — only with your consent
If you switch the Analytics category on in the cookie settings, we load Google Tag Manager (GTM-T772PV29) and, through it, Google Analytics 4 (G-DDY1JRMMN2). It sets two cookies on the hotstack.hu domain:
- _ga — tells visitors apart. Google asks for two years; some browsers keep it for less.
- _ga_DDY1JRMMN2 — keeps track of where the visit has got to, for the same period.
What we get out of them is how many pages are opened and which ones. Until you accept, neither is created and no analytics measurement starts — the same is true after “Necessary only”.
The data this produces is processed by Google, in the United States as well. Exactly what, for how long, and under which safeguard is in the Privacy policy.
Advertising cookies — only with your consent
If you switch the Advertising category on in the cookie settings, we load Google Tag Manager (GTM-T772PV29) and, through it, Google Ads conversion measurement. It measures whether a click on one of our Google ads led to an enquiry. It may set these cookies on the hotstack.hu domain:
- _gcl_au — lets Google Ads measurement recognise the browser again. Stays for up to 90 days from when it was last set.
- _gcl_aw — if you arrived by clicking an ad, holds the click identifier, so that a later enquiry can be tied to the click. Also stays for up to 90 days from when it was last set.
- Other cookies starting with _gcl_ (such as _gcl_gb, _gcl_ag) — do the same when the click brought a different kind of identifier. Also for up to 90 days from when it was last set.
The measurement may also read or set Google’s own cookies on Google’s domains (such as google.com and doubleclick.net); Google manages those, and describes them in its cookie list.
With the same consent we keep, in the tab’s session storage (sessionStorage) under ad_attribution, the click identifier (gclid, gbraid or wbraid), the link’s utm_ parameters (the source, the campaign, the ad, and the keyword the ad was shown for) and the page you landed on. They are cleared from storage when you close the tab; if you send the form before that, they reach us along with it. Google Ads also keeps the click identifier in your browser’s local storage (localStorage), under _gcl_ls, for up to 90 days. That too is created only once you allow Advertising, and it is deleted along with the cookies when you withdraw that consent.
We do not use remarketing: you will not be shown our ads on other sites because you were here. Until you allow it, none of these cookies is created, nothing is stored and no measurement starts — the same is true after “Necessary only”. What Google processes of this, and under which rules, is in the Privacy policy.
If you change your mind
Open the cookie settings and switch Analytics, Advertising or both off. The _ga or _gcl_ cookies already set are deleted at that point, along with the data kept for ad measurement, and the measurement stops. This does not delete what has already reached Google; you can ask by e-mail for the ad data attached to your enquiry to be deleted (see the Privacy policy). You can also clear the cookies and data stored for this site in your browser at any time.
